Inari

Description

Fifth one, for :icontgwolfe: who asked for an Inari. After some discussions, I went for something like Faust, and ended up slipping in a couple of references to a certain writer, I'm sure that some of you will recognize them... Anyway, as much as writing these captions is fun -and challenging, as I'm doing this also as a way of exercising myself- I still have ten captions left, with ideas for only half of them, and I can't rule out the possibility of others asking for one, so I've decided to do this: once I reach twenty requests (which means five spots left) or finish doing all the captions I already have, I will close this one, write two other captions -ghoul and thunderbird- for me, write an ending and continue with something else. Then, after some time -maybe this summer- I will start this all again, with the remaining monster-girls. In the meantime, if you are interested, even if you've already got one, you can ask for one of the 24 left. And now, the not-so-much-waited new entry for my bestiary:
Once a Kitsune gains her ninth tail, she becomes an Inari: much like their less powerful brethren, Inaris are fox spirits who assume physical shape thanks to their great powers, but, other than this, the two species are quite different: while Kitsunes are mischievous, love to play pranks and usually can't control very well their powers -or their physical form, in some cases-, Inaris are calm, quiet, almost shy creatures, who love to learn and are renowned for their great knowledge. Friendly and helpful, these creatures are quite rare as it can take centuries for a Kitsune to develop enough to become one. However, while they are some of the most peaceful monsters in the world, and one of the few who actually like humans and tends to cooperate with them, Inaris are also incredibly dangerous: possessing an incredible amount of power, in ancient times they were worshipped as divine beings, and were thought to be immortal, omniscient and all-powerful. While it is true that their abilities are almost god-like -maybe even on par with those of a Demon Lord- and they tend to live a very long life, they still can be killed, however this requires extreme efforts in order to destroy their bodies, and then trap their spirit -which, if left alone, will reincarnate again- and kill it, via a ritual so complex, so powerful and so dangerous that it could destroy the very fabric of the universe. Or so the Church, the only who possess such knowledge, says.
